Event reviews : Enjoyment Vs Irresponsibility

I refuse to continuously compartmentalize my life choices from my formal/informal education.

I refuse to separate my experiences when I go out to a social gathering, party, fete, cruise from my interpretation of how we really need to do better when it comes to being more responsible.

So, some more event reviews are going to be coming your way soon. Our first written review can be found here but we have attended a few events since then which you will be hearing more about soon.

We will continue to review any social events really - festivals, launches, townhall meetings, fairs, parties, cruises etc. because....

The precendent for responsible enjoyment is already established.

When it comes to alcohol consumption, finally businesses which sell these beverages now encourage consumers to drink responsibly. This trend of recommending responsibility started at the local level by people whose families have suffered the consequences of irresponsible alcohol consumption. The trend went global and continues to benefit us locally...hopefully there are now less drunk driving accidents.

In the Caribbean, we need to start another responsibility trend locally for our own sakes - for the sake of our economies which heavily depend on the health of our people - (tourism/service sector) and the health of environment (fisheries/food/tourism sector).

I say we, because I include myself in this "need to do better" category. This is no sage and the stage situation. I am in the crowd and will be in the crowd observing. I observe with purpose always with the aim of figuring out with you what we can do to do reduce the filth, garbage and irresponsible business and patron practices which damage our personal and environmental health. These practices also damage us financially (personally and nationally) but more on that later.

We don't have to chose between enjoyment and responsibility.......

We can still enjoy ourselves and be responsible about how we manage our waste, energy, water and health. Oh and to the organizers of events - you can still be responsible and sell out your events. It is possible and there are examples of this worldwide.

It is also in your best interest as an organizer to be responsible because it only takes a few pictures of something disgusting or wasteful to blemish your image/brand. Brands can heal from these blemishes but why wait for that to happen? Being proactive can save you time and money which can be reinvested into the growth of your brand. Our intention is exactly that - reinvestment in solutions and business resilience rather than accruing costs which could have been avoided.

See you soon, somewhere.
