Hi everyone, our Better Caribbean submitted this letter to the Acting Director of Environmental Protection Department and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Environment. We will let you know if/when we receive a response.
Re: Requesting Information and Scientific Data sets collected from remediating/monitoring Molasses disposal in proximity to Cole’s Cave, St. Thomas.
Who we are and what we do: The Caribbean Sustainability Collective has the goal of implementing sustainability demonstration projects and the Better Caribbean Program to foster effective cooperative partnerships to address the interrelated pillars of sustainability: environment, economy and society.
How: We are a collective of consultants, volunteers, organizations and businesses which mobilize and maximize resources. We mobilize resources (monetary, skills, experiences, knowledge and products) to solve issues related to environmental sustainability
Request: As a follow up to a conversation with an EPD staff member, we are formally requesting for your department to provide us with information – data collected from water/air quality, soil testing and any other specific data collected in monitoring the effects of molasses disposal in Cole’s Cave, gullies or agricultural land in near proximity. We are also requesting a written description about EPD actions taken to remediate this issue which has been of public concern.
In addition, we are requesting a meeting with you so that we can further define how our organization intends to support the work of the EPD and at the same time engage the public (businesses specifically) in more environmentally responsible practices. I can be reached at
Thank you for your consideration,
