Music. People. Power. Energy. Culture.
This is the campaign to sustain the work of our past Feel Better and Do Better Campaigns.
People Powered education is the way we can continue to solve all of the problems we see daily in our economy, society and our environment. Where ever you are - the economy does not move unless you spend money or go to work - it is that simple. Choices made to our lifestyles and how we spend money have created all of the environmental issues we now face. This is people power.
This campaign is a reminder that our choices have gotten us into a mess and our choices can power us out of it.
We are literally focusing on power via renewable energy leading up to Barbados' 50th Independence celebrations in November.
We are bringing this Energy Floor technology for the first time to the Caribbean and we are housing it in the People Powered Trailer (imagine a food truck for eco-learning, science, entrepreneurship which solves societal issues and public engagement on environmental issues).
It might be easier to call it a mobile classroom but some of us never liked school and most of us clicked this blog thinking we are creating a movie.
Well we are - The People Powered Trailer IS a movie with the visual effects of less problem complaining and more solution trying.
FAQs
Is this technology new and how do we know it will work?
No, it's been around the world from Germany to Brazil. It has lit the Eiffel Tower. In Grand Central Station, New York they even used Barbadian soca by Lil Rick to move the crowd.
How does the energy dance floor work?
Once we step or move on the dance floor tile our mechanical energy is converted to electricity. Our weight causes the vertical movement of the tile. As we move on the dance floor we generate electricity. We don't need to tap dance or raise our feet up and down to generate electricity i.e. the typical ways we dance in the Caribbean will generate electricity.
Bounce. Sway. Wuk-up. Wine. Tic Toc. Rock steady. Easy Skanking.
Do what you do and it will work.
Each energy floor tile (75cm x 75 cm x 20 cm) can generate between 5 -35 watts per person. Interested in more info about this technology - visit the Energy Floors website.
We can store or use the electricity generated for other purposes. We can charge phones and other small appliances directly. We plan to use the Energy Floors LED tower to visualize energy generated.
What difference will it make?
A big difference in terms of what we are empowered to do when we better understand solutions by experiencing them. It will make a difference if businesses contribute because we will also give sustainable business workshops and consulting in return. That is the short answer.
The long answer will be broken up into tidbits shared throughout the campaign on our Better Caribbean Facebook page.
Why raise funds for the energy dance floor before the People Powered Trailer which will house the dance floor?
It seems that in the Caribbean region online engagement is not always effective unless it is paired with events or in-person interactions. We need a mobile in-person base from which to do our work and the sustainable dance floor may attract funding to create that base in the form of the People Powered Trailer.
What is the Caribbean Sustainability Collective's arrangement with the Energy Floors company?
We are sales partners and specifically exclusive sales partners for the duration of our online fundraising campaign.

Why am I writing this? I am an environmental scientist by training and my great-great grandmother's last name was Dance. Really.
*Not so hidden agenda* I also like to dance and listen to music while I work.
